How to Make a Healthier Cough Drop and Boost Your Immunity

Allergy season is here and I don't know about you, but my eyes are watering, my throat is itching, and my nose is running. Not only that, but one of the most common mild symptoms of COVID-19 is a dry cough, so you can bet I'm looking for a way to soothe my throat. Remember, if you think you might have contracted coronavirus, reach out to your doctor or local hospital immediately.


The cough drops you buy at the drug store are full of sugar, which is only going to make you feel sicker. So I went on a mission to make a healthier cough drop, one that boosts immunity and calms my irritated throat.


I decided to look online for a healthier cough drop to make with coconut oil, add my favorite essential oils, and change it up to suit my family’s taste buds. It was a win in our household! These also make a great yummy drop of sweetness when you’re wanting something tasty without all the yucky stuff. I eat a drop in the afternoon or add it to my tea.



DIY HEALTHY COUGH DROPS


You’ll need honey (I use raw honey), organic cinnamon, lemon, coconut oil, a mixer, your choice of essential oil (I used Thieves), and mold to freeze the drops in. For storage, I use a glass container.


How to make healthy cough drops:

1. Whip 1/2 cup or so of coconut oil in your mixer.

2. Add in 1/2 cup honey, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, and 3 or so drops of essential oil. Mix until smooth.

3. Pour into mold and into freezer until solid.

4. Pop your drops into a glass container and keep in fridge. Enjoy!
