6 Things All Moms Should Know About CBD

It’s one of the biggest industries in the market right now and we’ve all heard about it, but what should you know about CBD before trying it? We compiled a list of questions and concerns moms today have about the new product, so you can understand if it’s right for you and/or your family.

What is CBD?

CBD is short for Cannabidoil, which is a natural, non-psychoactive concentrate extracted from hemp. While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. Hemp oil is packed with vitamins, minerals, volatile acids, omega-3-fatty acids, terpenes and antioxidants that provide natural therapeutic benefits. The oil can be added to various ingestibles, creams, gels, makeup...the list goes on! CBD products may help with:

Chronic pain and inflammation

Arthritis

Nausea

Sleep disorders and insomnia

Anxiety, stress, and depression

Skin conditions

Poor metabolic function

Weaker immune system

Energy and focus

You can see why everyone is interested in CBD and it’s possibilities.

Does CBD make you feel high?

No. Quality CBD is typically extracted from high-CBD, low-THC cannabis, so it doesn’t produce psychoactive effects the way THC does. This makes it a safe and legal option for all age groups and demographics. It will not get you high.

There are usually options, however, if you want a little bit of THC along with the CBD. Most high-quality sellers will offer products with various combinations, and you can ask them to walk you through the differences and quantities.

Is CBD actually effective?

Many people have found CBD to be effective in treating chronic pain, anxiety, depression, inflammation, insomnia, stress, and even acne. However, studies are very limited on the topic. According to Harvard Health Publishing, “...the strongest scientific evidence is for its effectiveness in treating some of the cruelest childhood epilepsy syndromes, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), which typically don’t respond to antiseizure medications.” How amazing is that?!

Is CBD safe for my children?

Yes, CBD is absolutely safe for your kids. Not only that, it’s used to treat terrible diseases and syndromes specifically in children. We talked to a local Houston CBD vendor and they shared one testimonial about CBD’s use for Autistic children:

"We have been using the high dose [CBD] oil and the nasal spray for our autistic son. Over the past week and a half, I've noticed a decrease in aggression and an increase in compliance. No night terrors, helpful when asked to perform a chore. Increase in motor skills; ie doing things for himself. Increase in confidence with dogs cuddling with him more often. Comfortable with giving him more responsibilities. Taking meds himself in front of me saying "I can/want to do it".

- Cruz G.

In what form should I use CBD?

Ingestibles are one of the best ways to begin feeling the effects of CBD as quickly as possible. Topicals (i.e. creams or gels) also provide rapid relief, but are targeted to the specific area where applied. The Houston CBD seller we spoke to said for maximum relief, it is recommended to use an “inside/ outside” approach to your wellness routine. Use ingestibles for your “inside” care and topicals to address your “outside” needs.

Where should I purchase CBD?

It is important to ensure you purchase your CBD at the right place because there is so much on the market right now. Be careful of companies offering crazy low prices - their CBD is also likely low quality and ineffective. Our favorite high-quality CBD company here in Houston is The Apothecary CBD Boutique. The Apothecary offers a full line of ingestibles, including tinctures, oils, capsules, and edibles, as well as topical relief gels, roll-ons, and balms. They also have a complete beauty line to help your skin look healthier, fresher, and cleaner. We really love their products because they blend CBD with essential oils to help fight acne, slow aging, and promote smoother looking skin.
